In a passionate address during the ongoing FDC National Consultative Meeting, Ssemujju Nganda, the spokesperson for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, expressed his determination to safeguard the party from being sold to President Yoweri Museveni. Nganda unveiled allegations of a plot by certain prominent members within the party National Council to hand over the FDC to President Museveni.
Speaking before party members and delegates, Nganda revealed the purported plan orchestrated by the group, highlighting their intention to exploit the upcoming party elections to advance their agenda. According to Nganda, the plan entails the appointment of Patrick Amuriat as party President and Nandala Mafabi as Secretary General through the FDC elections.
Subsequently, Nandala, who is expected to emerge as the flagbearer, would allegedly engage in a friendly alliance with Museveni during the 2026 elections and ultimately hand over the FDC to the current president.
"I refuse to be part of a process that will bring about leadership akin to that of Mao, whose primary objective is to lead the party into the hands of Museveni." Ssemujju firmly declared
He expressed concerns about the future direction and values of the party under such leadership.
Furthermore, Ssemujju accused Nandala Mafabi and Patrick Amuriat of receiving funds from undisclosed sources during the 2021 presidential campaigns, raising questions about their financial transparency and the potential influence of external forces within the party.
In response to these challenges, Ssemujju announced his commitment to embark on a series of consultation meetings across the country. His goal is to gather insights and potential solutions to address the internal struggles within the FDC and protect the party's integrity and independence.
The FDC has faced internal power struggles over the years, leading to the resignation of key members, including Gen Mugisha Muntu, Winnie Kizza, and Paul Mwiru. These challenges continue to impact the unity and cohesion of the party as it strives to navigate its future trajectory.
As the FDC National Consultative Meeting unfolds, party members and observers alike anticipate the outcomes of Ssemujju's efforts to address the alleged plot and restore harmony within the party, ensuring its focus remains on advancing the democratic principles and aspirations of its supporters.
