The Taliban, an Islamist and military organisation based in Afghanistan has taken over rule of the current government.
Although not officially given power by the outgoing government, the group has managed to secure atleast 99% of the strategic places in the country.
All the major provinces of Afghanistan were put under their authority in the last 2 weeks with the last one being Kabul which is the capital city of the country.
The Taliban had indicated that they would not go ahead to capture Kabul, a home to more than 5 million people and kept to that promise by only staying at the entrances of the city on Sunday morning.
This was under command of their leader, Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada who ordered his men not to dare enter Kabul because he was busy forging a way forward on how to peacefully transfer power from the current government to his Taliban group.
They promised not to attack or kill anyone in the city including women and children but were simply interested in the seat of power.
Later in the day, Mawlawi disobeyed his own command
Without bloodshed which was a bit unusual, the Taliban militants raided the city and blocked all major highways with armed checkpoints.
According to their leader, he said it was necessary to enter the capital, Kabul because other factions in the city had already planned to cause instability by looting and blame it all on them.
So the militants in all this did not want to be seen as bad guys despite their ugly history that shows how they have murdered and tortured Afghan people for the past 20 years.
The take over of the city which was the last target in the country was confirmed on live TV and social media as the militants together with their leader took pictures inside the presidential Palace which had been left vacant by now outgoing president, Ashraf Ghani.
That is when panic increased
The city which was already on tension after getting news of an impending Taliban attack got into a much worse situation especially for the foreigners.
Many up to now are still struggling to exit the Asian country especially the US citizens who had been evacuated from their multi-billion dollar embassy building with the help of military helicopters.
The US itself sent an additional 6000 troops to oversee the safe evacuation of its citizens. So the American soldiers are now in charge of the airport atleast until all foreigners are out of Afghanistan.
And the Hamid Karzai airport is now the only remaining place for the Taliban to capture in order to have complete control (100%) of the entire Afghanistan.

There has also been reported gunfire at the airport by US military to control crowds that are attempting to flee the country in order to create some order on the airport's tarmac where hundreds of desperate civilians have been running up and down to enter waiting aircrafts.
