Thiago Alcantra, 33, is going to leave Liverpool and become a free agent.
According to a report from Spain, Thiago Alcantra is being considered by one of his former clubs as a potential candidate for the role of assistant manager. It is reported that they have already made contact with him.
Thiago Alcantra only played one game for Liverpool this season, this was the game against Arsenal back in February whereby he only played for five minutes. Thiago will leave Liverpool when his contract with the club expires on 30th of June.
He joined Liverpool FC from Bayern Munich in 2020 and has made 98 appearances for the Reds. During his time at the club he has lifted the FA cup and Community Shield.
Thiago posted the following statement;
Appreciation and gratitude. They are two words that come to mind on the day I have to say goodbye to all of you, Reds. Thankful, too. Thankful for the opportunity to have been a part of this city, this club and this community. The continuous support I have received since day one has been incredible. Anfield cheering, The Kop chanting… amazing, overwhelming. A very unique fan base for a unique club. These past four years have been a time of learning for me and my family. Some wins, some defeats, but without a doubt, a life-changing experience. Team mates, coaches, staff, and club employees: you were all part of it. And to the fans, I don’t have the words. Just know you will have my deepest gratitude forever. Thank you, it was an honour. All the best always, Liverpool FC.
Thiago Alcantra's next move is yet to be known but former club Barcelona seem to have plans for the Spaniard.
FC Barcelona are said to be looking for an assistant manager that can speak fluent Spanish and German to join Hansi Flick's coaching staff. They also want someone to act as a direct link between the management and the squad.
Thiago Alcantra, Javi Martinez, Marc Bartra and Ivan Rakitic are the names under consideration for the role of assistant manager at Barcelona.
Thiago Alcantra is the most preferred for the position since he played under Hansi Flick when he was the coach at Bayern Munich, but also because he has ever played for FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona are aware that their search for a profile like Thiago Alcantra will be difficult but they are keen to make it happen.
