* Austen apologises for lack of disclosure concerning his medical admission
* Questions pertaining his medical procedure and the secrecy around it all remain unanswered.
* The Defence Secretary had been hospitalised for a week at the Walter Reed National medical centre.
The U.S Defence Secretary says he takes full responsibility for secrecy pertaining his hospitalization of a yet unidentified medical condition. Austen 70, was admiited to the Walter Reed National medical centre for what the Pentagon called complications following a recent elective medical procedure a fact that was hidden by the security body for five days.
" It is important to say that I and this medical procedure take full responsibility for my decesions" Austen said. This statement came after it was reported that Senior Biden administration officials, the Pentagon and Congress were all unaware of Austen's admission. Similarly the Pentagon did not inform the National security council or its advisor Jake Sullivan that Austen had been admitted until late Thursday.
Austen, who spent 41 years in the military and retired as four star general in 2016 sits just below President Biden in the head of the command of the U.S military and therefore his absenture and failure to report the matter further showed more weakened sides in the Biden administration as many thought that the defence Secretary was away on a vavcation.
