While the chances of qualifying for next year's Africa Cup of Nations remain very slim, Uganda Cranes have a chance of making a record and qualify for the first ever World Cup in the history of the nation.
In the recent FIFA World Cup 2026 World Cup Qualifiers pots released, the Cranes were seeded in Port 3, with Angola, Benin, Kenya, Mauritania, Congo, Madagascar, Guinea Bissau, and Namibia.
This however means the Cranes will most likely be drawn in the same group with African Giants like Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Cameroon, Mali, Egypt, Ivory Coast and Ghana, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Guinea, Zambia, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea who are in pots 2 and 3 respectively.
The qualifiers draw will be held on Wednesday 12th/July and with the number of teams for the tournament increased from 32 to 48, Uganda is likely to have her first ever World Cup participation if all goes well.
The draws will have nine groups, each with six teams and the winner of each group will qualify automatically while the 4 second beat will go into play-offs. The winners will then play inter-continental matches. The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
