    Uganda's 21-man squad finishes 11th at the  World Athletics Championships in Budapest-Hungary

    Uganda's 21-team that represented the country in the recently concluded #WorldAthleticsChampionships happening in Hungary-Budapest finished 11th in the overall standings, thanks to the 2 gold medals won by Joshua Cheptegei and Victor Kiplangat. 

    Cheptegei, who captained the entire team won gold in the 10,000m marathon, a title he was able to defend having won it in the preveious championship. He(Cheptegei) however withdrew from the 5000m due to an injury

    Uganda's second and final medal of the tournament came from Victor Kiplangat who won the 42km marathon, giving Uganda's first Gold medal since Steven Kiprotich won it in  2013 in Moscow, Russia. Uganda's Steven Kisa finished the marathon in 5th, having fell down earlier.

    Notable performers for Uganda include Halima Nakaayi, who represented the country in the 800m and finished 8th, Peruth Chemutai finished 7th in the 3000m steplechase while Tarsis Orogot reached the Semi final of the 200m.

    The 11th position meant that Uganda's was third best African nation at the championships, edging Morocco who came 15th and Burkina Faso who came 18th in the competition. USA  with 12 gold medals came 1st and Canada (4), Spain (4), Jamaica (3) and Kenya (3) completed the top five in that order.
