The Parliament of Uganda has taken a compassionate step in arranging for the medical treatment of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, the MP representing Kawempe North constituency, after test results revealed lung tumors that cannot be treated within the country.
The legislator, visibly concerned about his health, addressed the media while holding the test results in an envelope from Mengo Hospital. Hon. Ssegirinya disclosed that he would be traveling to Nairobi Hospital for further examinations before embarking on comprehensive treatment in Germany.
"I am not in good shape. The doctors have found wounds on my lungs, and I have difficulty breathing. My stomach is in a lot of pain, and during the night, I feel very hot. I also suffer from hypertension," he shared with concern.
Accompanied by his brother, Hon. Ssegirinya expressed hope that this trip to Germany would yield positive results, as he has been in and out of the hospital due to his deteriorating health.
"I have gone with my brother, and my family has escorted me to the airport. I believe I will be fine. They are going to treat me so that I can get back on my feet. I have never been truly stable since I left prison. Once I complete my treatment, I will be able to serve the people of Kawempe with all I have," he added optimistically.
Despite his impending absence, Hon. Ssegirinya assured the people of Kawempe that they would continue to receive assistance, at least from Parliament. He praised the Parliament for purchasing their air tickets and promising to take care of his hospital bills in Germany.
"The Parliament has shown immense support. They have bought our air tickets and promised to take care of my hospital bills in Germany," he expressed his gratitude.
The news of Hon. Ssegirinya's medical condition has elicited concern and sympathy from both his constituents and fellow lawmakers. Many have extended their well-wishes for his swift recovery and return to serving his people diligently.
As Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya embarks on his medical journey abroad, the nation remains hopeful that he will receive the best possible treatment and make a full recovery.
