There have been rumors making rounds all over social media that the Ugandan government is pushing for a parliamentary democracy type of government where legislators elect the president of their choice into power.
It was not so long ago when this rumor originated from CBS. CBS broadcasting company went ahead and quoted Hon Jackson Kafuuzi as saying that the government was acquiring funds to finance the constitution review Commission's country wide tour meaning that the constitution was due to be reviewed in order to add the amended law.
The government has come out and denied the media reports about setting up a constitution Review Commission with an idea of changing Uganda's élection framework to parliamentary majority rules system.
"That story being circulated via social media about changing the election framework is fake." Uganda Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi said on Wednesday.
He went ahead to discern the rumors and said everyone who was quoting him was only passing on their own intentions and he was not involved in that fake news.
" I have come across social media sites alleging an impending amendment to the constitutional Review Commission. They all claim to be quoting me. Its not true and whoever is circulating it must be attempting to fulfill his or her own intentions."
It should be noted that out of 529 MPs, NRM has 337 seats, independent has 73 and the opposition NUP party has 57 seats and so the Parliamentary system only favors the ruling party because they have majority. Parliamentary seats.
