Gravity made a few rude comments that made him face a harsh public backlash which then forced him to cry Infront of cameras as he lamented that his career was going to go down the drain all because of a few jokes. In his comments, he mentioned that the three giants of the music industry, Bebe Cool, Chameleone and Bobi Wine should also take a step back as they are growing old and let young talent take the bull by the horns and settle in the music industry.
He mentioned that the trio refused to promote his concert that was held on October 1. He said that despite declining to support him, his concert was well-attended, implying they no longer command the audiences as much as they used to back then.
He accused them of being jealous, adding that since some of them have branched into other industries, like Wine in politics, they should focus on that and leave the music to enthusiastic young people.
According to Bebe Cool however, they still have bills to pay, and Omutujju, should do the work if he wants to be in the circle the three top dogs. He mentioned that he did not set standards for himself but it is rather the audience that set the standards and therefore no one else has the right to tell him to leave the industry but the audience. He went ahead to mention that for one to earn respect they need to work for it in a way that the must be respectful, clean and well groomed.
“ we didn’t build the cage, it was built by the audience. The audience says leave those three men alone… until you are at their level. We haven’t elevated ourselves to this level. It’s Ugandans that have put us there. Ugandans whose attention we are competing for and singing for are the ones [who built the cage]. If you want to remove Bebe Cool from his position, produce good music for Ugandans, project a respectable demeanour, show discipline, dress well, bathe, be respectful, and then they will respect you. The audience will respect you and put you where Bobi Wine and Chameleone are,” Bebe Cool
Bebe Cool went ahead to mention that before the big three, the industry was dominated by the Congolese and Jamaicans but currently, Ugandan music is very popular.
The industry was in the hands of Jamaicans and Congolese, but it’s now in hands of Ugandans. I hear people saying that if you keep dissing Bebe Cool you’ll get the attention. But you may only get it for three months, and struggle for the next 30 years. So, focus on what the audience expects you to deliver.” Said Bebe
He also added that he is a parent who has a wife to provide for, children to take care of as well as various bills to pay so he needed to earn money inorder to pay all these bills and handle his responsibilities. Bebe went on to question everyone telling him to quit music if they will feed his children and settle his bills if he quits the industry.
“We are musicians. We are parents. We have kids to support. Wives to dress. We have water and electricity bills. So, when you tell us to leave the music industry, do you have an office you want to go to and work and feed our children?” he asked.
