Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the circumstances under which an artisanal miner was on Saturday buried alive in a gold mine.
Martial Tumusiime the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesman identifies the deceased as a 23 years old Gaston Gumisiriza, resident of Karimunyari in Kyamuhunga Sub-county.
John Bakyenga, the Karimunyari LC1 Chairman, says the deceased went together with four others in the gold mine on Saturday morning.
The mine later on cave in and buried Gumisiriza and colleagues
'' we heard a loud screams and rushed to find miners buried under the ground. We rescued them but one was already dead,'' Bakyenga said.
Tumusiime says the area has since been sealed off to allow investigations into the incident.
The Police mouth piece, says miners have failed to embrace measures while looking for gold to avoid incidents of this nature.
