When Uganda was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic in March last year, literally the whole economy fell to its knees, given the country was sent to a toatal lockdown that lasted close to 5months. This forced the country to look for loans worth billions of both local and foreign currency to be able to save the economy and also fight the pandemic.
Like they always say about leadership, money and accountability, huge cunks of this money got diverted to finish "personal projects" as corridor sources have kept saying and that during the lockdown, a number of arcades, apartments were completed and monster rides were purchased.
This however didn't stop Mulago and other health facilities from running out of Oxygen and beds for patients, Oxygen rates shot to the sky and tents hired to house Covid patients at Nambole "were blown away by the wind!" Isn't Uganda a fun country to live in?
Among the various people who've been accussed of taking a share of the "Covid-19 cake" is Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations Dr Monica Musenero, who according to a document making rounds on the internet, pocketed a whooping 59bn shillings which was meant to fund scientists and researchers in finding a workable solution to fight the deadly disease.
The minister has however dismissed the reports, saying she knows nothing about that money. Question is, who has always known anything about 'that money?'
