Today, 10th December 2020 marks world International Human Rights Day.
This day is celebrated by all UN members; Uganda inclusive.
It is well known that various countries in Africa this year have gone through so much violence and police brutality, the most widespread being in Nigeria.
Uganda too had her share of violence in the month of November, where 60 innocent civilians lost their lives while many were injured.
It is during this year that we have also seen a hash tag dubbed #endpolicebrutality since these law enforcers are the biggest violators of human rights.
Dr. Patrick Nyankaana, head of the Uganda Human Rights Commission made a speech warning the people in uniform to respect Ugandans and opposition party members whose rights have been abused countless times.
From throwing tear gas canisters in cars of opposition members to beating up Ugandans and shooting live bullets at innocent civilians, the issue of Human Rights is one we still have to talk about and truly enforce.
