Following the president's directive for institutions of learning to open for candidates on 15th/October/2020, the ministry of education and other concerned parties set out to start schools inspection before learners reported. The exercise was expected to be done before 15th, the reporting day. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, only 51% of the total number of schools countrywide had been inspected and passed to reopen.
This didn't stop learners from reporting on 15th, which they have been doing till now. A few hours back, the Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, the director of education standards at the ministry of education said that the inspection had been extended till Saturday, 24th of October. He farther said this is to allow local governments to finalize inspection and publish reports, according to the Directorate of Education Standards (DES)
This comes at a time where most of the schools in rural areas and refugee settlements have not yet opened due to lack of required SOPs, and also the scare of the 16 teachers who tasted positive for Covid_19 just a day into the reopening. Will this be the only extension or they'll keep extending? Keep it locked for updates.
