Jurgen Klopp has played a massive role in the success Liverpool FC have achieved in the last eight years. He has led the side to multiple trophies. Having joined in October 2015, Jurgen Klopp has led Liverpool to the peak of English and European football.
2015/16
Jurgen Klopp replaced Brendan Rogers in October of 2015 at a time when the club had not won any silverware for three years.
In his first season in the Premier league with Liverpool, he led them to an eighth place finish.
At the end of February 2016, Klopp almost led Liverpool to their first trophy. Unfortunately, they drew 1-1 against Manchester city in the league cup and lost to them 3-1 on penalties.
Liverpool were also knocked out by Westham in the 4th round of the FA cup in early February of 2016.
In May 2016, Liverpool were defeated by Sevilla 3-1 in the Europa League final. This was their first loss of the European competition that season.
Klopp didn't make any significant signings in his first transfer window in January and no major outings were recorded either.
Daniel Sturridge was the top scorer for the club in this season with 13 goals and James Milner topped the assist table with 14 assists.
2016/17
Having failed to qualify for European football the year before, Klopp's team were determined to get back into the European competitions.
Liverpool finished fourth in the Premier league, qualifying for the Champions League the following season and finishing a point above Arsenal.
Liverpool were knocked out of the league cup in the semifinal by Southampton. They lost 2-0 on aggregate across the two legs in January, 2017.
Later on in January 2017, Liverpool were knocked out of the FA cup in the fourth round once again. But this time they were knocked out by Wolves.
In this year, Jurgen Klopp was active in the transfer market. He signed players who would become stars for the club in Sadio Mane, Joel Matip and Georginio Wijnaldum.
Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel are some of the players who left the club.
Phillipe Coutinho was the top scorer for the club in this season with 14 goals and new signing Wijnaldum had the most assists with 11 across all competitions.
2017/18
Klopp led the Reds to another fourth place finish in the Premier league with 75 points. This guaranteed them Champions league football for the coming season.
This time round in the League cup, Liverpool lost to Leicester City in round three of the competition.
In the fourth round of the FA cup, Liverpool lost 3-2 to West Bromwich Albion.
Liverpool managed to reach the Champions league final in May 2018 but were defeated 3-1 by Real Madrid.
Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson were all signed by Jurgen Klopp in this season. They all went on to become superstars for the club.
New signing Mohamed Salah was the top scorer of the club in this season with 44 goals across all competitions and Roberto Firmino had the most assists.
2018/19
This was the season Liverpool ended their seven year trophy drought and also came so close to lifting the Premier league title.
With a record breaking 97 points, Liverpool unfortunately finished in second place, one point behind Manchester city.
Liverpool were knocked out of both the FA cup and League cup in the third round. They lost 2-1 to Chelsea in the league cup and 2-1 to Wolves in the FA cup.
Despite failing to win the English cup competitions, Liverpool won the Champions league with an impressive run to the final defeating Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Tottenham. This was the first trophy Jurgen Klopp lifted with the club.
Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alisson were all signed in this season.
Mohamed Salah was the top scorer of the club again with 27 goals and Trent Alexander-Arnold had the most assists throughout all competitions for Liverpool.
2019/20
Having been crowned Champions of Europe, Liverpool qualified for the UEFA Supercup and FIFA Club World Cup. They won both cups in this campaign.
After 30 years, Liverpool won the Premier league in 2019. The title was won during the lockdown with 99 points, 18 points clear of Manchester city who were in second place.
Compared to the past years, Liverpool went a little bit further in the league cup. Unfortunately, they were knocked out in the quarter finals by Aston Villa.
Chelsea also knocked them out of the FA cup in the fifth round after a 2-0 loss at Anfield.
Liverpool couldn't defend their Champions league title as they were defeated by Atletico Madrid in the round of 16.
No major signings were made but both Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings left the club.
Mo Salah was the top scorer of the club for the third year in a row with 23 goals, along side Trent Alexander-Arnold who got 15 assists.
2020/21
Unfortunately, Klopp failed to secure any trophy in this season. Liverpool finished 3rd with 69 points.
Liverpool's failure in the English Club Competitions continued as they were knocked out of both the League cup and FA cup in the fourth round.
Liverpool were knocked out of the League cup on penalties by Arsenal and were also knocked out of the FA cup by Crystal Palace.
In April of 2021, Liverpool were defeated by Real Madrid in the quarter final of the Champions league. They were defeated 3-1 across the two legs.
Thiago, Kostas Tsimika and Diogo Jota joined Liverpool this season and became key players of the attacking football at the club.
Mo Salah topped the goal scoring table of Liverpool again with 31 goals across all competitions. Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino got the most assists with nine each.
2021/22
During this campaign, Liverpool dominated the English Cup competitions.
Liverpool finished in second place, one point behind Premier league champions Manchester city.
Liverpool defeated Chelsea on penalties at Wembley on two different occasions to secure both the League cup and FA cup.
Liverpool managed to reach the Champions league final again but were defeated 1-0 by Real Madrid.
Mo Salah scored 31 goals and Trent had 18 assists to his name in this campaign.
Ibrahima Konate and Luis Diaz signed for the club in this season.
Jurgen Klopp sold Xherdan Shaqiri and released Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer to PSG.
2022/23
Even though the campaign started with a victory in the Community Shield, this year was not a successful one for Jurgen Klopp.
The club failed to qualify for the Champions league for the first time since Klopp's first season in charge at the club in 2016.
Liverpool finished in fifth place with 67 points, four points behind Newcastle United.
Liverpool were knocked out of both the league cup and FA cup in the fourth round. They lost 3-2 to Manchester City in the League cup and also lost to Brighton in the FA cup.
Liverpool were then knocked out of the Champions league after they were defeated 6-2 across both legs by Real Madrid.
The club made three big signings in this season, Fabio Caralho, Darwin Nunez and Coady Gakpo.
However, they lost Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich in a deal worth £27.5 million.
Mo Salah had the most goals and assists for Liverpool in this season. He scored 30 goals and setup 16 across all competitions.
2023/24
Klopp announced his departure at the end on the season on 26th January, 2024.
Liverpool have finished in 3rd place with 84 points, 7 points behind Arsenal and 9 points behind champions Manchester city.
Klopp's side also faced a surprising 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the first leg of the Europa league quarter final. The Reds only managed to score one goal in the return leg and were defeated by Atalanta 3-1 on aggregate.
Not the farewell season Klopp would have hoped for but he was able to secure another League cup after defeating Chelsea 1-0.
Klopp made big moves in his last transfer window, signing Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.
But he also let go of James Milner, Keita, Firmino, Fabinho and the club captain Jordan Henderson last summer.
Klopp will forever be remembered for the fantastic work he has done at Liverpool. His time at the club has seen Liverpool improve massively from the years before he stepped in.
The German promised never to manage any other English football club. He backed it with the following statement;
