* Turkey finally accepts Sweden to become a member of NATO military alliance.
* Sweden had earlier on been denied with Turkey demanding that it should first meet it's conditions.
* Sweden's membership bid will lead to the expansion alliance system around the North Atlantic ocean with Sweden accession making the pact's number 32.
Sweden aged one step closer towards joining the NATO military alliance where the foreign affairs committee of Turkey's parliament approved it's membership bid last Tuesday. The measure must be approved by the full parliament though no date has been set for the vote. Turkey had always delayed Sweden's process to join NATO since it last applied with the invasion of Ukraine by Russia saying that Sweden, Canada and the U.S all needed to meet the Turkish demands. Both Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO, a process that required unanimous support from the alliance's 31 member states but Turkey initially blocked them both although it later relented over Finland paving way for the country to join in March and continued to hold out Sweden.
Multiple NATO leaders said that Sweden has done all that it takes to join and that Turkey's delays in approving Sweden's entry have exasperated other members of the alliance who view Turkey as leveraging it's position for domestic gain. The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in addition argued that Sweden needs to cut down on dissidents whom his country considers as terrorists but this has instead created rifts between Turkey and her fellow NATO members thus hindering the country's accession to NATO. From the United States, Turkey wants a $20 billion package of American made F-16 fighter jets and upgrade kits for the jets it already has. The Biden administration says it supports the sale but Congress members have objected citing Turkey's poor human rights record and its stance on Sweden.
Mr. Erdogan also noted that the decision about Sweden lies in the parliament and not with him although his party and it's political allies hold a commanding share of the votes that could easily push the measure but needed America to address the F-16 issue through the Congress and he would likewise address the Sweden issue through his parliament.Turkey has also tried to use Sweden's NATO bid to put pressure on Canada another NATO member into pursuing policies that were seen as a measure to ascertain its dominance but eventually we shall see Sweden making it's entrance into the alliance increasing NATO'S membership to 32 by the end of 2024
