At around this same time last year, Uganda Cranes as a team was busy challenging other African Nations in the football world at the African Nations Cup Tournament.
The Cranes that were one of the most impressive sides in the 2019 competition received all kinds of applause from different football pundits across the continent and also from many Ugandans at home.
The team managed to progress to the round of 16 which it had not done for decades after beating football giants DR Congo and earning a point from a tough Zimbabwe team.
As the team returned home after being knocked out of the round of 16 by hosts, Senegal, they were received cheerfully by Ugandans including President Museveni.
The president as usual had a wonderful meeting and dinner to congratulate the players at his statehouse and it is from here that he promised them a grand sum of 1 Million US Dollars.

A year later, the Cranes captain, Miya Farouk has revealed how the team has never received a single penny from Museveni and he has come out to plead to the president on behalf of his teammates that are being pressed by harsh Covid Times.
Greetings from Uganda Cranes players Your Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
In these tough Covid-19 times with everyone trying to fend for themselves, we find the timing right to remind you as the No.1 citizen of the Pearl of Africa about the $1m (One Million Dollars) promise soon after our respectable show during the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt last year.
Our teammates (some already retired now) have been humbling requesting as players to remind you of the promise.
We feel frustrated, unhappy and somewhat under-appreciated that our token of appreciation hangs in balance.
We truly believe that you will come to our rescue soonest as you have done in the past
