On Friday 31st/July, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in his national address inline with Covid-19, lifted the lockdown on a couple of things, among which were the arcades and the famous Kikuubo. These according to the president's directives, are to resume service tomorrow the 2nd of August.
However, while shop owners were jubilating and gearing up to resume work tomorrow, their excitment has been cut short. Minister for Kampala, Hon. Kabuye Kyofatogabye came out yesterday and warned shop owners not to risk going to town tomorrow. According to minister Kabuye, ardades and Kikuubo are out of bounds for another 5 days.
"I appeal to all vendors and shop owners in arcades and Kikuubo not to risk opening up come Monday. The Covid-19 task force has to first inspect all arcades and ensure SOPs will be observed so as to let people access them." said Minister Kabuye. It is also rumored that certificates are to be awarded to shop owners and only those certified will be allowed to open.
Well well, inthe words of a reknown Ugandan, whoever is neaxt to a shop owner in Arcades and Kikuubo, "omwana oyo mukwateko."
