Uganda Musicians Association's electoral body on Monday started to nominate candidates of various positions for their general elections of their 2022 - 2024 term.
Various candidates have been verified and cleared for nominations in the two-day nomination exercise held at the National Theatre Gardens in Kampala. There are four lots of positions for office and these include the Executive Board, Cluster Representatives, Genre Representatives, and Regional Representatives. The first lot of positions available are for Executive Board officers and these include; President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The second lot of positions available are the Cluster Representatives which include Youth affairs Representative, Women affairs Representative & Regional representatives.
For the top executive position of Presidency, King Saha and Cindy sanyu were nominated on Monday. For position of Vice President, all aspirants were nominated on the first day and these included Kusiima Irene, HANSON BALIRUNO, Allan Hendrik Ssali , Kalifah AgaNaga and Daddy Andre. The position of General Secretary has Phina Mugerwa & Sewa Sewa who were fully nominated on Day 1. Omukunja Atasera and Allan Toniks have been nominated on Day 2 for the same position. Another position on the Executive Board is Treasurer with Geosteady and Chagga fully nominated.
Those nominated for Special Cluster Representatives included Irene Namatovu for Women, Babarah for Youth , Junjju Isma AKA Jajja Galaba for Youth and Nakisige Shamim AKA Nakiss for Youth. Genre Representative positions, nominated for Kadongo Kamu included Lord Fred Ssebata and Nabwami Grace. For the Dancehall genre representatives, Ras Dee Musically, Master Parrot & VAMPINO were nominated on Monday. The Band Music representatives include Sarah Zawedde nominated on Day 1 and Ronald Mayinja nominated on Day 2. There are 4 regional representatives expected to be nominated on day 2 and these include, Ongom Emmy AKA Blood Moon for Northern Region, Peace Among AKA Akira for Northern Region, Agonzibwa David AKA VirtualBeats It for Western region and Odhiambo Godfrey AKA Benzamin for Eastern Region.
The Electoral Committee will announce the official dates for the general elections in due course, according to Geoffrey Ekongot, the UMA Electoral committee chairman. He however adds that after nomination, they are free to campaign. "Upon successful nomination, the candidates will be free to campaign," he said . Prior to these nominations, the UMA Policy Board announced the launch of the nomination process in a press conference at the National Theatre on 28th March 2022. Nomination forms were available for pick up from the UMA office at National Theatre and Online via the UMA website umaonline.org, starting Wednesday 30th March 2022.
