Former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Denis Masinde Onyango, currently playing for South African club Mamelodi Sundowns looks set to remain at the club where he has played and won most of his accolades.
With his contract expiring at the end of June this year, the former African Player of the year shared about his future and seemed ready to stay at the club, probably take up new roles other than goal keeping.
"I'm hoping that the club will retain me because the fans are like I’m going to be around the club next season. So for me, I’m happy with the decision that the club will take but we are still finalizing." Onyango shared with iDiski Times.
Onyango has been Mamelodi's first choice goalkeeper for a while, winning 10 league titles making him the most decorated player in the league, before going below the pecking order and losing the first choice spot to Ronwen Williams, who's also the first choice goalkeeper for the South African national team and also its captain.
"The club looking at it and saying, ‘Denis, if you have the opportunity to go and become whatever you want, whether a goalkeeper coach or administrator you’re welcome to do that. You know when one door closes the other opens. Of course the club is there, the opportunity is there and the club is really trying to help in whatever activity you want to do" Onyango added.
Onyango who is currently 38years old is still hopeful of adding an 11th league title to his trophy cabin before finally putting his gloves down and venture into a new role, still at Mamelodi Sundowns.
