While on his schools tour in the Luweero district, Archbishop of the church of Uganda Rt. Rev. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu has called upon the government of Uganda to live up to its promise made last year to private schools owners.
At the peak of the first wave of Covid-19 last year which had seen all institutions of learning suspended, the government through the Ministry of Education promised to help the private schools owners with around UGX 16bn to help them sort some of the loans that were eating them up.
However, like many of the government's promises, this one too seems to be far away from coming true, as it's now close to a year since it was made but the receipients are still waiting.
This has prompted Archbishop to add his voice to the call and urged the government to fulfill its promise, given the education sector has been one of the greatly hit by the pandemic and many teachers are falling out of the proffession each day that goes by. Let's hope since the man of God has spoken, the responsible people will act accordingly.
