Manchester City have been crowned Premier league champions for the fourth time in a row after an impressive 4-1 victory against Westham on the final day of the Premier league.
Phil Foden gave Manchester city the lead in the 2nd minute of the game and later scored again in the 18th minute to make the score 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
Arsenal were given a glimmer of hope in the title race by Mohammed Kudus who scored for Westham with a remarkable over head kick to make the score 2-1 before halftime. However, Rodri restored Manchester city's two-goal advantage in the 59th minute.
This victory against Westham meant Manchester city were finishing two points clear at the top of the Premier league table. Title rivals Arsenal came from behind to defeat Everton 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium with goals from Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kai Havertz for Arsenal and a goal from Idrissa Gana Gueye for Everton.
This was David Moyes' 198th and final Premier league game in charge of Westham. Even though it ended in defeat, Mohammed Kudus' strike atleast gave him something to savour on his final day.
Kudus has scored 8 league goals in his first Premier league campaign, only Jarrod Bowen among his Westham team mates has scored more.
This is Pep Guardiola's sixth premier league title with Manchester City. He is the fourth manager to win as many as six English top flight titles along with Sir Alex Ferguson(13), George Ramsay(6) and Bob Paisley (6).
Phil Foden said the following at the end of the match;
It's so hard to put into words what we've done today. No team's ever done it [four in a row]. You see what it means to the fans and us, working all year for this moment. This Premier League means a little bit more. We're the first team to do it. I'm lost for words.I thought today we looked confident and just played our football, in the end it paid off. Almost the perfect start, sometimes I believe in scoring a bit too early. I got the second, which helped us a little bit. I want this feeling all the time, there's no better feeling, I just want to keep winning as much as I can.
Phil Foden, who is currently 23 years old, is the youngest player to win six premier league titles.
He was also named player of the season.
Mikel Arteta and Martin Odegaard also addressed the crowd at the Emirates Stadium after the game ended.
Mikel Arteta said the following;
All this is happening because you started believing, you started to be patient, you started to understand what we were trying to do. All the credit has to go to the players and the staff, who are unbelievable. I think now it’s time to have a break, think, reflect, keep pushing, keep inspiring this team. Don’t be satisfied because we want much more than that and we’re going to get it.
Martin Odegaard's speech can be seen on the TNT Sports YouTube channel.
