The newly appointed prime minister of the Republic of Uganda, Rt Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has finally delivered on her promise.
The minister promised to deliver cash packages to vulnerable Ugandans in cities all over the country who have been hardest hit by the lockdown.
These groups of people are the ones who live on hand to mouth basis in other words what they make in terms of daily earnings is equivalent to what they consume still on a daily basis.
These groups include; boda boda riders, taxi operators, market vendors, street vendors, bar attendants, DJs, musicians, artistes and welders to mention but a few.
So the first person to receive cash today was Mr Godfrey Oloya, a boda boda rider based in Gulu City and his UGX. 100,000 was sent via his Airtel simcard right in front of journalists and government officials.
The officials led by a group of IT experts from NITA Uganda initiated the first transaction and there was a football-match like celebration once Godfrey confirmed receipt of his money via a phone call by the prime minster, Nabbanja.

Delay in disbursement of the covid relief cash
The money that the Prime Minister started sending out to Ugandan citizens today is however said to have delayed and was behind schedule.
The whole process according to reports was slowed down by a section of local leaders in Kampala especially those who could not easily come up with accurate lists for the eligible people in their areas who are entitled to the covid relief cash from the Government of Uganda.
And by close of business today, it was reported that only half of the total number of vulnerable citizens entitled to the relief have been uploaded to the the payment portal ready for cash disbursement.
