In a tragic incident, suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels have left three people dead in Nyabitutsi village, Businge parish, Kamwenge sub-county. The attack occurred on Christmas night, as reported by Kamwenge Resident District Commissioner, Isiah Kanyamahane Byarugaba.
The victims include 78-year-old Adrine Ngwabiiji and her two grandchildren. The assailants, after raiding the village, set a house ablaze, resulting in the loss of three lives. Additionally, they plundered the community, making off with ten goats and five cows.
This grim event follows closely on the heels of another ADF attack in the Kibaale forest area, where 10 people lost their lives. The victims were tragically killed while safeguarding their crops from monkeys.
President Yoweri Museveni, in a statement condemning the incident, revealed that the four attackers are believed to be remnants of the Njovu-Kamusu group. This group, previously consisting of 10 individuals, entered Uganda from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) a few weeks ago.
"They had crossed back to Congo but came back. They are the group that killed the children of Nyabugaando school, killed the two tourists and their driver, and burnt the onion truck," President Museveni declared.
The recent surge in ADF activities in the region raises concerns about the security situation and the need for swift and decisive measures to ensure the safety of the affected communities.
