President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni earlier today recieved the Ugandan olympic team that represented the nation in the recently concluded #TokyoOlympics. Uganda was represented by over 25 athletes in different sports among which included boxing, athletics, swimming and others.
Out of the 25 athletes, three atletes managed to win four medals. Joshua Cheptegei won Gold in the men's 5000m and Silver in the men's 10,000m. Joseph Chelimo won Bronze in the men's 10,000m while Peruth Chemutai won Gold in the women's 5000m stiple chase, making her the first female to win an olympic Gold medal for the country.
The team, with its 4 medals managed to come 36th, out of over 200 nations that participated and came 2nd behind Kenya which was 19th in the African nations that participated.
As a token of appreciation, each of these three athletes received brand new automobiles from the president, which were presented to them today at Kololo independence grounds. The president also pledged to construct houses for the parents of each of the medalists.
In his speech, the president applauded the abandunce of peace brought by the NRM government and attributed the success of the athletes to this. "I want to thank the NRM government for fighting for peace. Now our sportsmen and women can freely train without any fear." Said a rather happy and boastful president Museveni.
Now, the public has been claiming the government has not done enough to support the sports fraternity. The president has told you what they've done.
